Nintendo Makes A Splash: From The Ocarina of Time Remake to Monster Hunter Wilds—All The Bombshell Announcements From The Two-Day Direct Event

KYOTO — The Kyoto-based company pulled off a two-day streaming event to outline its autumn lineup and look ahead to early 2027. Between the special broadcast on September 8^th dedicated entirely to celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda saga and the general Nintendo Direct on September 9^th, the Japanese company unveiled a packed schedule of hardware releases, major comebacks, and third-party titles.

The first event, which aired on Tuesday September 8^th, opened with a celebratory orchestral concert before making way for the announcement of the return of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, which is what long-time fans had been waiting for. The 1998 masterpiece will return with completely overhauled graphics on November 5^th, 2026. A special edition Nintendo Switch 2 and a themed Pro Controller will also be launched for the occasion.

The 45-minute broadcast on Wednesday September 9^th covered the schedule for autumn/winter and the early months of 2027. Key highlights included: Kirby and the World Beyond (a new 3D, open-world entry featuring HAL Laboratory’s pink hero, expected in spring 2027) and Metroid Ravenous (a return to the classic 2D action formula for Samus Aran, scheduled for January 28^th, 2027).

Major third-party titles were also featured: Monster Hunter Wilds will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4^th2026, while Square Enix revealed the release date for Final Fantasy VII Revelation (April 8^th, 2027) and made Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion available immediately following the Direct. There was also a focus on the horror and action genres, featuring Stellar Blade (to be released on November 5^th, 2026) and the Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes (digital release on October 16^th, 2026).

The dual broadcast confirmed plans to bolster the 2026 holiday season by combining major exclusives with optimized versions of popular third-party titles. The showcase also revealed the official logo for Persona 6 (coming to the Nintendo console), though questions remain regarding FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods—the event’s notable absentee, which still lacks a confirmed release date.

Nintendo concluded the broadcasts by reaffirming its commitment to subscription services (including the arrival of GameCube classics on Nintendo Switch Online) and promising further updates ahead of the holiday season.
