Dungeons & Dragons Embraces the Horror: The Ravenloft – The Horrors Within Sourcebook is Coming

Wizards of the Coast brings players back to the grim atmosphere of the Demiplane of Terror. Available starting October 20th 2026, the sourcebook promises to turn every session into a masterclass in nightmare-inducing horror.

Thick mists are rising once again across the multiverse of the world’s most famous roleplaying game. Wizards of the Coast has announced the official Italian release of Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft – The Horrors Within, a new expansion dedicated entirely to Gothic horror and its darkest variations. The book will arrive in specialty stores and bookstores starting October 20th 2026.

This work serves as an essential resource for both Dungeon Masters seeking unsettling inspiration and players eager to portray heroes marked by a dark destiny. The volume maps out and explores 16 Domains of Terror, each ruled by one of 17 Darklords—tyrants and tragic monsters trapped within their own dimensional prisons.

The sourcebook guides gaming groups through 10 horror subgenres, ranging from classic Mary Shelley-style Gothic terror to dark fantasy, psychological horror, and more modern, cosmic themes.

For those on the other side of the screen, the book introduces customization options designed to reflect the setting’s grim nature:

  • 7 All-new subclasses (Highlights include options such as the Reanimator and the Dark Guardian)
  • Origin content (4 new species, 4 thematic backgrounds, and 2 Origin feats)
  • Dark Gifts (9 pacts and curses capable of granting unique powers at the cost of a dark narrative and mechanical penalty)

The manual includes a Bestiary featuring 51 creatures—ranging from abominations and monstrosities to unique denizens of the domains—complemented by detailed maps and narrative tools to calibrate the tension at the gaming table.

To coincide with the book’s launch (in Italy), Panini Comics will release Darklord’s Quest, a special collection featuring 208 stickers and 50 collectible cards based on the famous Tarokka—the tarot-like deck used in the world of Ravenloft to foretell the futures of hapless adventurers.

Ready your dice and candles: starting October 20th, stepping through the mists will be the only way to discover if your party has what it takes to survive the night.
