Forget the endless monologues and watered-down political plots; the dark side is about to get much more… visceral. If you thought Maul’s story had already been told between The Clone Wars and Rebels, prepare to think again. In less than a month, the galaxy’s most beloved former Sith returns as the undisputed protagonist in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.
Save the date; the series will officially debut on Disney+ on April 6th, 2026.
Lucasfilm has decided to spoil us with a scheduled release schedule: two episodes a week, every Monday, until the grand finale scheduled for May 4th, Star Wars Day. It is set up perfectly to get to “May the 4th” with the jet engines revving.
What are we talking about?
Set in the heart of the Imperial Era—just a few years after Order 66—the series bridges a narrative gap that fans have dreamed of exploring for years. We will see Maul build his empire from the ashes, establishing his base on the planet Janix—a corrupt world flying completely under the Empire’s radar. The trailers have already shown Maul interacting with the young and disillusioned Padawan Devon Izara. Will she become his new weapon, or his undoing? The master-apprentice dynamic promises to be more morally gray than ever before.

Sam Witwer is confirmed to return as the voice of Maul (his performance is by now legendary), while Dave Filoni oversees the entire production to ensure the kind of narrative consistency that we fans demand.
The 3D animation appears to have taken yet another leap in quality, featuring dark, noir-style atmospheres and a narrative approach that pays homage to political thrillers and space-faring gangster movies.
Why shouldn’t you miss it?
This isn’t just “another cartoon”. Shadow Lord promises to be the missing piece of the puzzle, explaining how Maul evolved from a fugitive into the leader of Crimson Dawn. Furthermore, rumors suggest brutal clashes with the Inquisitors and appearances by familiar faces from the galactic underworld.
