This year’s guests were numerous and of the highest caliber, confirming the Orlando event as one of the industry’s heavyweights. But beyond the big names on the poster, can the same be said for the overall experience of the convention?
Our journey began with Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) from the world of Harry Potter; returning to Hogwarts is a never-ending thrill and a perfect kickoff to the days of the convention.
Amidst memories, anecdotes, and embarrassing behind-the-scenes moments—and not just from the movies—we experienced a panel filled with laughter.
The program celebrated the quarter-century of The Lord of the Rings in grand style. Among the most iconic moments was the “Second Breakfast”, an exclusive event that allowed fans to share a traditional Hobbit meal with the saga’s actors. Rounding out the experience, a panel dedicated to behind-the-scenes stories and tales from the set revealed previously unseen details that captivated the audience.
Another unmissable event was the The Mummy reunion; Brendan Fraser, Oded Fehr, John Hannah, Patricia Velasquez, and Chris Killan brought the emotions of a timeless cult classic to life, with amusing anecdotes and palpable emotion.
The energy of The Boys panel was equally impressive. Karl Urban led one of the most lively and humorous panels of the entire event, raising the bar for the series finale we’ve all been eagerly awaiting.

Artist Alley deserves a chapter all its own, as it’s the true beating heart of the event. It’s here that MegaCon rediscovers the authenticity that’s sometimes lacking among the large commercial booths. Wandering among the tables, it was impossible not to notice a strong presence of Italian artists, now renowned for their work with major American labels like Marvel, DC, and Image. Seeing our compatriots sign prints and create commissions live for overseas audiences is a testament to the global esteem in which the “Italian school” is held. Whether they are industry veterans or promising young talents, their contributions brought a stylistic variety and technical quality that shone brightly, reminding us that beyond Hollywood’s greatest actors, the true architects of these fantastical worlds often speak our language.
Ultimately, this year’s MegaCon proved to be a war machine when it comes to high-level fan service. If your goal is to gaze into the eyes of the protagonists of your favorite franchises or hear untold anecdotes directly from the voices of Brendan Fraser or Karl Urban, then the event is unrivaled; the emotion of those panels more than makes up for the price of the ticket.
However, the challenge for the future remains. A “Mega” convention should rely not only on the firepower of its guests, but also on the ability to offer a unique and diverse exhibition experience. The risk, between one Funko Pop booth and the next, is that the commercial spirit of the event becomes too predictable, losing the “treasure hunt” feel that makes comic book conventions so magical.
