Hulk Hogan Dies of Cardiac Arrest.
The Hulkster has left us. At the age of 71, Hulk Hogan, a wrestling legend and pop culture icon, has passed away. On the morning of July 24th, he suffered a serious cardiac arrest, and medical efforts were unsuccessful.
The news shocked the entire sports entertainment community, even though in the industry had long been rumored that the leader of Hulkamania was having health issues.
The following is the WWE statement:
“WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away.
One of the most recognizable figures in pop culture, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s.
WWE extends its condolences to his family, friends, and fans.”
Hogan was an extremely important figure in American pop culture and beyond. His battles with Andre the Giant and The Ultimate Warrior are still front and center. Hulk didn’t stop at the ring, but also boasts numerous film appearances, with cameos in films like Rocky III and Gremlins II, and even his own starring role in 1989’s “Bloodsport,” in which he plays a wrestler in a brutal competition.
The immortal legend, however, is not without his flaws. Over the past decade, he has unwittingly found himself embroiled in several racially motivated scandals, and his political affiliations have only further soured the opinion of many fans. This is compounded by his difficult relationship with many former colleagues, who have often described him as selfish, difficult to work with, and unwilling to honor other wrestlers.
His contribution to the sport of pro-wrestling remains undeniable, having transformed it into a global phenomenon, inspiring some of the biggest names in the sport today.
