Like the most classic of “open secrets,” Pokémon has finally announced the tenth generation: Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves.
Rather than a proper trailer, we should call it a teaser, but let’s leave aside the terminological subtleties and dive right into our first impressions.
While it’s true that Pokémon has never been played solely for the graphics, it’s equally true that the eye wants its part: it finally seems like the franchise has decided to evolve.

Without delving into a frame-by-frame technical analysis—that’s a job we leave to others—we’d like to share a concern. While it’s easy to imagine how the “waves” element will be represented in gameplay, the same cannot be said for the “wind.” Simply adding a few animated gusts isn’t enough to truly implement this element mechanically. We’re very curious to see how it will actually be integrated into the game world.
Finally, we come to the sore point: the release date. The release is slated for sometime in 2027. Currently, the most likely bets are on February, as a gift for the brand’s anniversary, or the classic October/November release. But who knows, maybe Pokémon will surprise us with a summer title: so beachgoers can play Pokémon Waves, and mountain-goers can play Pokémon Winds… or vice versa!
