Sometimes a change of scenery is a good thing. For this reason, we went down to Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. We spent 2 days in a moderate, but curated comicon.

The past returns with autographs on the most precious memorabilia of nerd culture: hoverboards for Christopher Lloyd (Doc in Back to the Future), posters of the most famous films directed by John Carpenter (The Thing), swords for Mel Gibson (Braveheart), and models of the USS Enterprise for William Shatner (Star Trek).

It wasn’t just the old guard that held sway. There were also characters like John Cena (WWE), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), and Andy Serkis (Gollum in Lord of the Rings).

Otherwise, it’s a comicon like any other. Artist Alley is always full of super talented people. On the show floor, people were packed like sardines looking for the latest gadget to buy. As always, you hate the crowd in the moment, but when it’s all over you kind of miss it.

The longest line was for the ‘signing’ of the top guest star this year: Peggy the dog from Deadpool & Wolverine. Guys, Peggy was the only star with a private booth to avoid people taking lots of pictures, and she ‘signed’ everything from stuffed animals, to Funko Pops, to comics.

We hope next year to find Krypto the Superdog (Superman).
