Napoli Comicon 2025: Waiting for Superman

A surprise Superman panel took place from the auditorium of the Teatro Mediterraneo. It was a somewhat ambiguous conference given the absence of exclusive footage (which had been implied by the programming), but composed of a simple greeting from the cast for the Napoli Comicon. Angelo Cavallaro, Emanuele Dascanio and Andrea Velati had their say on the character and the film coming out next July.

Emanuele D’Ascanio (a.k.a. CapComics):

“(It is) the right time for the return of this character who has also been treated a bit badly in recent years. This version can bring back a feeling of hope ; in the last 15 years due to particular scenarios, Superman has been distorted but this film excites me.

I was in love with it from the first frame. He is first man, then super. In the previous management, he was made a God among men when in reality he is a man among men. Injustice was one of the biggest mistakes made with the character, even at a video game level. A film like this is a beautiful but risky choice ; kids today are not used to vulnerable superheroes.

Angelo Cavallaro (a.k.a. Sommobuta)

“Superman is my favorite superhero. I have always loved the dichotomy of Superman as a man and a super human. We would all like to be like him ; what makes him super are his values and not his superpowers. He is more human than human beings ; the source of his powers is his ethics. If you take away his humanity, he becomes an ordinary superhero. This was the problem with his latest film releases: it seemed like we were watching fake SuperSayian”.

Andrea Velati:

“I think Superman is the mirror of society: an alien who arrives on our planet and is shaped by what is human civilization. From the most traditional Superman to the man of steel to Jamen Gunn, everyone has tried to tell a different version of Superman. I hope Gunn does not repeat Guardians of the Galaxy, but finds another way to outline his fragility. We have to ask ourselves what kind of superhero Superman can be in today’s society”.
