Milan Games Week & Cartoomics 2025: A Convention to Remember

Taking a last-minute trip, Caffè Nerdiano decided to travel across Italy to Milan Games Week 2025.

This edition of Milan Games Week has also closed its curtains, leaving behind screams of joy and frustration. Between e-sports, celebrities, and the unmistakable smell of food, you could wander through the pavilions, bumping into one another. Nintendo’s latest releases and beloved retro games were eclipsed by Drönjöns & Dragan, the splendid Ikea manual.

If Lucca Comics & Games is the epic fantasy saga and Naples Comicon is the superhero comedy, Milan Games Week is the Blockbuster with its positives and negatives: all focused, all futuristic, and—let’s face it—all very Lombard.

Games Week is the fashion week of gaming. If you want to get your hands on the latest hardware or preview AAA games coming out in six months, Games Week is the place to be. Here, you can breathe in the future with the “latest ray tracing” and even give a nod to retro gaming with the arcade machines we all fondly remember. Like all high-fashion events, you can also find their respective celebrities, namely the biggest E-Sports players of the moment.

Unfortunately, not all that glitters is gold. Prices, which have continued to rise for a few years and the poor quality-price ratio, leave us with a bitter taste. At other conventions, you can gorge on gadgets without declaring bankruptcy. The lines, almost as long as those in Lucca but squeezed into a tenth of the space, make the experience suffocating. Milan Games Week & Cartoomics highlighted content creators, leaving comics and illustration in the background. Very little of Cartoomics remains. As a result, the atmosphere is thick with business, while the comics section is pushed to the sidelines.

All things considered, Milan Games Week 2025 is the ideal convention for gamers who want to test, compete, and experience the more technological and spectacular side of video games, but it’s not suitable for the passionate comic book artist.
