Lucca Comics & Games 2025: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach – Connections According to Master Kojima

As in the game, Master Hideo Kojima’s panel was all about connections: connections between the actors and their characters, between the cast and the game world, and of course, between all of them and Kojima himself.

“Working remotely isn’t the same,” said the Master. “We’re connected, but not really. A true connection requires contact, warmth, and smells.”

Through memories, anecdotes, and short clips from backstage, us as spectators had the opportunity to connect even more with this extraordinary universe.

When Kojima talks about the game’s scenes, he does so like a true director. He talks about how at times he wasn’t sure how to frame a scene, and how Marinelli and Jung improvised some key passages. Those improvisations, born on the spot, remained in the game—a sign that the actors had truly internalized their characters.

The Maestro continues to praise the cast, acknowledging how they fully understood the vision he wanted to convey and, indeed, enriched it with their sensitivity. Likewise, the actors reciprocated with words of admiration, praising the depth of the characters and Kojima’s ability to build worlds where every connection is meaningful.

And so, just as Kojima and his team connected with each other, Lucca did too—once again demonstrating it’s love for the game, for the Maestro, and for everything he represents.
