Lucca Comics & Games 2024: L’ora più blu

Federico Pace, Roberto Guerinoni (a.k.a. spam il mandarino psichico), Valentina Galluccio, e Giovanni Esposito (a.ka. quasi rosso) talk about their most recent projects:

Valentina Galluccio, winner of the Lucca project contest with Dog, tells the personal and autobiographical story of a toxic relationship with an ex-boyfriend one year after her debut. This experience was beautiful at first, but traumatic.

Both as a reader and as a creator, comics are therapeutic from the passage of fear to realization.

Roberto Guerinoni is now coming out with a graphic novel by Coconino Press (@coconinopress), initially born as a degree thesis at the Bologna Academy and then remodeled and expanded. The work tells the story of Mario, a character who by nature is forgettable by the rest of the society in which he lives until he meets a femme fatal who will change his life.

Federico Pace is the author of an autobiography that deals with the delicate theme of his transition. It is a fictionalized story but not much, that talks about gender dysphoria symbolized by the image of flowers in the eyes. The flowers, used as a metaphor for maturation, fall and the transformation is complete: “We bloom when we mature”.

Giovanni Esposito brings to light “Things I like and that, perhaps, you also like”, published by Feltrinelli Comics (@feltrinelli_editore).

“I don’t like making comics; let’s try to do something of my own that I like 100%… I’m not an artist, I’m an idiot… It tells about me in the most self-centered way possibl, but also highlighting things about me that I don’t like… Partly an illustrated book, partly a comic, partly many things, it was born as a list of things that I liked”.
