“Drawn in Sud” is the first conference that we at Caffè Nerdiano have followed for you directly from the FantaExpo in Salerno.
In this panel, we have heard the testimonies of several illustrators and animators who have told us how their passion for the sector was born, talked about their work experience in southern Italy, and whether it is possible to work for realities in the south.
Well, the answer to this question is “yes, but…”

All the guests have had the opportunity to work and approach local and international realities and the most difficult one (and unfortunately there is not much to be surprised about) is precisely that of southern Italy. Many artists are forced to emigrate and then return and bet on themselves and although comics is a fairly thriving sector, manga are the most popular, marginalizing the traditional comic book.
Returning to that “yes, but…” said before, we have deduced that the situation of the cartoonist and illustrator in southern Italy is very precarious, so much so that in most cases the artists themselves are forced to support themselves in other ways.
